Bon à Savoir (FAQ)

About the Paintings

Where do you source your paintings?

Almost all of our paintings are sourced through trusted partners throughout France, many based in Paris. From time to time, we also include exceptional works found elsewhere in Europe, as long as they align with the Raw Brush eye: original paintings with history, character, and a refined modern Parisian sensibility.

Are your paintings originals?

Yes. Every piece at Raw Brush is an original, one-of-a-kind painting. We do not sell prints, reproductions, or copies. Once sold, it's gone.

What is the Raw Brush aesthetic?

Éclectique.

We don’t believe a home should commit to one era, one rule, or one “look.” We collect original paintings across styles: folk art, naïve charm, Art Deco, classical pieces, and modern work. The charm is in the mix, old beside new, polished beside rustic, always balanced. The result feels layered, personal, and collected.

How do you decide what makes it into the Raw Brush collection?

We choose paintings the way a good collector does: with standards, and with a bit of instinct.

First, it has to feel singular. The kind of piece that makes you pause because you haven’t seen that composition, that mood, that face, that landscape, done quite that way. If it feels ordinary, it’s not Raw Brush.

Second, it needs that unnameable something. We call it je ne sais quoi (“that little something you can’t quite explain”).

And finally, it has to give off the right feeling. We’re not interested in art that weighs a room down. We choose pieces that bring calm, warmth, and a positive presence. A home should feel better with our painting in it. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Shipping & Delivery

Where do you ship to?

We ship internationally. Shipping is on us for the US, Canada, and Europe. For other destinations, shipping is available with a small additional cost at checkout.

How long does delivery take?

Our free shipping usually arrives in 5–15 business days, depending on where you are and where the painting is dispatched from. If you’re on a tighter timeline, expedited shipping is available at checkout.

Returns & Exchanges

What is your return policy? If it’s not the one, what then?

With one-of-a-kind vintage and antique pieces, returns are rarely the norm. Many established sellers keep returns very limited, or don’t offer them at all. We, however, want you to be genuinely obsessed.

If it doesn’t feel right in your space, you may request a return within 7 days of delivery, as long as it’s returned in the same condition and in the original packaging. Return shipping is the buyer’s responsibility and will be deducted from the refund amount.

Please pack the painting very carefully in its original box to avoid damage during transit. Any damage during return shipping will be the buyer’s responsibility.

Can I swap for another piece?

Yes, with one note: because every painting is one-of-a-kind, a “swap” works as a return + a new order.

You may request a return within 7 days of delivery (same condition, original packaging). Once the return is in motion, you’re welcome to place a new order for the piece you prefer. Return shipping costs still apply, as outlined above.

Between Us

Will a Raw Brush painting make my home look more… Paris?

We certainly hope so.

But “Paris” isn’t a look you buy in a day. It’s a feeling: a home that seems collected, not coordinated. One original painting helps immediately because it adds history, texture, and a point of view. A Raw Brush painting won’t turn your home into Saint-Germain overnight, but it’s a very good place to begin.

What if I have blank walls and commitment issues?

Take a breath. You’re not “bad at art.” You’re just new to collecting. Pour yourself a glass of wine. Art is not that serious.

If you’re here with us, chances are you’re drawn to a few of these worlds:

  • Modern Parisian apartment interior
  • Eclectic interior
  • French country
  • Art Deco apartment interior

Use them as search keywords. Notice what keeps pulling you in: the mood, the palette, the subjects. Patterns appear quickly. Start with one anchor piece, then build from there.

The goal isn’t to “get it right.” It’s to choose the first painting you genuinely like. And if it isn’t the one in your space, we keep things civilized: you have 7 days to request a return (please make sure to check out our detailed return policy).

How do I know I’m choosing the right piece? Is there a rule for buying art, or is it just instinct?

There’s no rule. If there were, everyone’s home would look the same, and that would be tragic.

The right piece has a pull. You stop scrolling. You come back. You start picturing where it lives. That’s not indecision. That’s your heart telling you something.

If you want to be practical, take a straight-on photo of your wall and do a quick mockup. But trust this: if you can’t forget it, it belongs on your wall.
