This original oil on canvas by French artist Darriet delivers a truly exceptional approach to floral still life. Unlike conventional rose paintings, Darriet transforms these blooms into architectural forms with a striking geometric sensibility. The flowers emerge as bold, geometric forms from a deep blue vase, set against a rich, dark background that emphasizes their sculptural quality. Darriet's distinctive approach bridges Post-Impressionism with elements of early Cubism and Fauvism, creating a floral study that feels both structured and expressive.

The composition reveals confident, intentional brushwork that prioritizes expression over realism. It also achieves a rare balance between structured form and emotional expression. Soft pinks, deep reds, creamy whites, and buttery yellows create a vibrant palette that contrasts with the navy blue vase and dramatic background. Darriet's training under masters Louis-Alexandre Cabié and Félix Carme is evident, yet this work demonstrates her distinctive artistic vision that transcends traditional floral painting conventions.
