A procession crosses a red meadow like a scene from a private fairytale. A pale horse pulls a carriage, figures gather around a table, and flowers appear with the logic of a dream. The mood is playful, slightly surreal, and confidently decorative. It has that unmistakable art naïf (naïve art) charm: direct, narrative, and beautifully unconcerned with realism.
Painted in oil on cardboard, the surface feels immediate and hand-worked, with visible brush handling and confident color choices that favor storytelling over realism. Color is the seduction here: deep blues and smoky mauves set against a bold red ground, punctuated by small, witty details that keep revealing themselves the longer you look. The overall effect is whimsical and faintly surreal, a lyrical narrative with a distinctly French sensibility, more poetic than literal.
It’s a piece for rooms where you want the mind to stay agile. In an office, it softens the seriousness and invites better ideas, the kind that arrive when you stop trying so hard. In a studio, it becomes a gentle creative companion, reminding you that rules are optional when the result is compelling. And in a nursery or child’s room, it feels like a story waiting to be told, playful and comforting, visually pleasing without being childish. It slips beautifully into boho and eclectic interiors, and looks especially charming in French country spaces where a bit of whimsy makes everything feel more lived-in and human.
Why We Love It
It rewards attention. The longer you live with it, the more it starts to unfold, little visual surprises tucked into the scene like secrets. It genuinely stimulates creativity. It gives you permission to think outside the usual lines, to enjoy a world where imagination matters more than perfect perspective or “correct” color.
And yet, it never feels chaotic. There’s a peaceful, playful justice to it, as if everything is exactly where it should be in this storybook universe. Visually, it’s simply pleasing. It softens a room, sparks conversation, and leaves you feeling more inventive than you were five minutes ago.

A Note on August Shipping
Each August, much of France takes a well-earned pause to enjoy la vie. Some of our French friends and partners who help us source, prepare, and send our paintings have already headed off to do summer properly. A little patience may be required during this time. Consider it a small invitation to borrow a page from the French way of living: exhale. Orders placed during this period may occasionally take a little longer than usual. Pieces already in Los Angeles are unaffected and ready to ship as usual.
If you are purchasing for a time-sensitive project, please reach out before ordering and we’ll happily confirm the timeline for the specific piece.

Most of our paintings will be shipped straight from France unless specified otherwise. While we aim to send them your way as quickly as possible, very occasional delays may occur, as some of our beloved French partners have a certain je ne sais quoi and like to take their time preparing the paintings. You can’t rush good things in life, after all—and we’re talking about antique and vintage paintings here.
