Three woodpeckers animate a leafy tree, their warm red heads and finely patterned feathers standing out against the pale background. One peers around the trunk while the others perch below, their differing poses giving the composition a gentle sense of movement. Green leaves, small golden fruit, and the weathered contours of the wood complete this quietly engaging woodland study.
Why We Love It
Each bird has its own alert pose, giving the scene personality, while the leafy greens, soft browns, and russet reds create a warm, harmonious palette. The patterned feathers and weathered tree trunk offer plenty to explore without making the composition feel busy.
We especially love the contrast between the pale background and the broad gilt frame. Together, they give the painting a strong, handsome presence.

Condition: Excellent condition. One small spot of paint loss to the surface; otherwise the paint layer reads clean and well preserved, with no lifting or flaking noted. Housed in a giltwood frame that shows light scratches and small losses to the gilt across the molding, wear that gives the frame its character. Please see photos for details.

🇬🇧 UK customers: Antique artworks are duty-free and qualify for a reduced 5% VAT at import, not the full rate.
