This French village landscape by Marc Delamorinière (1904–1979) captures a tall village house framed by bare trees, rooftops, and softly receding hills. The vertical composition gives the piece an elegant architectural presence, with the central building drawing the eye upward through branches, chimneys, and layered countryside.
The brushwork is loose and expressive, giving the scene a fresh, modern feeling while still preserving the charm of a traditional French village view. Slate blue, warm ochre, terracotta, pale grey, and soft mauve move throughout the painting, creating a palette that feels sophisticated, atmospheric, and easy to place in a collected interior.

About the Artist
A listed 20th-century French painter known for landscapes, village views, and architectural scenes, Marc Raymond Delamorinière (1904–1979) had an eye for intimate places rather than grand monuments: the close-up bridge, the quiet village corner, the scene that feels personal rather than composed for an audience. Before he painted any of them, he was a Free French paratrooper. He joined the Forces Françaises Libres in Tunisia in June 1943, trained at RAF Ringway in England (parachutist certificate number 3018, January 1944), and served with the elite French 3rd SAS regiment. He participated in Operation Moses, an SAS mission behind enemy lines in occupied France in the autumn of 1944. He returned from the war with the Croix de Guerre 39/45 and the Médaille commémorative des services volontaires dans la France Libre. A man who survived occupied France and enemy territory, and then spent the rest of his life painting its light.
This piece reflects that sensibility beautifully, with its modest village architecture, softened hills, and expressive handling of form and color.
Why We Love It
This is an interesting landscape to keep looking at. The eye moves from the red chimney to the blue roof, down through the tall house, then out toward the trees, rooftops, and distant hills. The colors are especially lovely together: cool blue and grey balanced by warm ochre and terracotta. The gilt frame, with its red inner border, complements the painting beautifully, echoing the warmer tones in the chimney and village roofs while giving the piece a polished, gallery-like presence.

Some of our French friends and partners who help us source, prepare, and send our paintings have already headed off to do summer properly. A little patience may be required during this time. Consider it a small invitation to borrow a page from the French way of living: exhale. Orders placed during this period may occasionally take a little longer than usual. Pieces already in Los Angeles are unaffected and ready to ship as usual.

We offer free shipping for all orders, with an expedited option available for those who consider waiting for art a form of exquisite torture. All items are insured and carefully packaged to ensure they arrive safely. Delivery typically takes 5–15 business days, depending on your location.
🇺🇸 U.S. customers: All of our pieces are exempt from import duties and tariffs. We provide the correct documentation to ensure your order clears customs smoothly.
🇬🇧 UK customers: Antique artworks are duty-free and qualify for a reduced 5% VAT at import, not the full rate.
🌍 Customers in other countries: Duties and taxes vary, but original and antique artworks often qualify for reduced or zero import fees. Please check with your local customs office for details. We’re happy to assist and provide any documentation you may need.

Most of our paintings will be shipped straight from France unless specified otherwise. While we aim to send them your way as quickly as possible, very occasional delays may occur, as some of our beloved French partners have a certain je ne sais quoi and like to take their time preparing the paintings. You can’t rush good things in life, after all—and we’re talking about antique and vintage paintings here.

We accept returns within 7 days of delivery.
We want you to be obsessed with your new painting. If it doesn’t feel right in your space, you may request a return within 7 days of delivery, as long as it’s returned in the same condition and original packaging.
